About Best Wood Fired Grills
We started this site because we were tired of pellet grill reviews written by people who clearly never lit a fire. Too many "review" sites just rewrite spec sheets and manufacturer talking points. That is not what we do here.
Every grill on this site has been purchased at retail price, assembled in our garage, and put through real cooks. We are talking briskets, racks of ribs, whole chickens, cold weather sessions, and overnight smokes. If a grill can not hold temp at 225F for 12 hours, you will hear about it.
Our Testing Methodology
We evaluate every pellet grill across six categories:
- Temperature control - How well does the PID controller hold temp? We log temps every 5 minutes during a 12-hour cook.
- Build quality - Steel gauge, weld quality, paint durability, lid seal, and overall fit and finish.
- Cooking results - Smoke flavor, bark formation, moisture retention. We cook the same recipes on every grill for fair comparisons.
- Ease of use - Assembly time, startup, cleanup, ash management, and hopper design.
- Features - WiFi app quality, probe accuracy, searing capability, versatility.
- Value - What you get per dollar compared to competitors at the same price point.
Why We Cover Multiple Brands
Some sites focus on a single brand. We think that does you a disservice. The best grill for you depends on your budget, your cooking style, and your backyard setup. A Traeger might be perfect for one person and terrible for another. We cover Traeger, Camp Chef, Pit Boss, Z Grills, RecTeq, and others so you can make an informed choice.
How We Make Money
We earn commissions when you purchase a grill through our affiliate links. This does not cost you anything extra. We participate in direct affiliate programs with the brands we review. We never accept free products or paid placements. Our revenue model is simple: if we recommend good products and you buy them, we earn a commission.
